Here are some of ERIC's own tips to get your emails read!
TRICK 1: How to find anyone's email
There are a few free plugins that you can install on your computer that link up to LinkedIn and you can basically search for anyone's emails by searching their company or job title. We're currently using the plug in Clearbit Connect which we highly recommend!
For example, if you want to find the HR Manager at Sony Music:
Note, if you know the persons name but can't find their email on Clearbit, another trick is to look for another persons email address in the same company to learn the generic email formula. So if we look at Sony Music, their generic email is firstname.surname@sonymusic.com. You can then insert the name of the person who's name you know. Simples!
Trick 2: Catchy Email Subject line
On average an office worker gets 121 emails per day!! So in order to get your email noticed you NEED a catchy subject. It doesn't need to be related to what your email is really about so be bold and daring. Here are some email subject examples:
DON'Ts
- Looking for a job
- FAO of HR Manager
- John Smiths CV
DOs
- Free Nandos!
- Call next week
- Re: Introduction
Trick 3: Spelling and be nice!
There's nothing worse than reading an email with lots of spelling mistakes and a sense of rudeness. You don't need to be writing a long detailed email but definitely something short and sweet with please and thank you's!
Another free plug in we use is Grammarly. Once installed it will automatically spell check your emails highlighting any spelling and grammar mistakes.
