Choosing an employer is a huge decision and there are lots of things you'll need to think about. To ensure you're prepared as you can be to make the right choice, here are five points you should think about before you start applying.

1. Seek Out Careers Advice

It's easy to want to follow your own path but seeking careers advice is vital for helping you make a rational decision. Whether you use a careers advisor, mentor, or just speak to friends and family, advice is essential for aiding you throughout the application and interview process.

2. Logistics

This is often overlooked but making sure the job is the right job for you also includes looking outside of the job description. Make sure the location, size of the company, and other factors such as roles that require travel or commitments such as working unsociable hours are right for you before you sign the contract!

3. Culture

Every employer has a different way of doing things, so make sure you get a good idea of what the company culture is like. Do some background research on the company reputation and seek out former employee reviews. During the interview process, make sure to ask about the workplace atmosphere, and quiz them on their policies.

4. Progression and Training

It's great to secure a position, but in order to enhance your professional skills, you'll need training. Ask your employer what kind of training they offer, and how they can help you progress in your field over time.

5. Beyond the Job

Possibly the most important thing to consider! See what other opportunities your company offer you, outside of your role. Are there opportunities to volunteer or mentoring schemes you can become a part of? Make the most out of any chance to do something different, whether that's working with a different team, attending a course or training day, or being part of any work initiatives. These are the little things that can help you move forward!
