With everything online nowadays it can be hard to keep up, even for the speedy Gen Z! And one thing that has always sat in that grey area of 'what the fuck is this' is webinars. The prefix ‘web’ clearly means that they’re on the web; but WTF is a webinar? And if it's as boring as it sounds, then why are they still happening??
The definition of a webinar is live web-based video conference. So, it happens in real time (live) and is essentially a video conference. But how is this different to facetiming your mate? Well, webinars are basically an informal online conference. This means that there are two types of people involved: the audience (watching) and the host (giving the lecture).
Doesn't sound too complicated does it? But it does sound boring. And yes, in our experience the majority of webinars are boring because they're hosted by old people talking about business stuff, but sometimes there are useful webinars. After all, you can hold a webinar about anything - including dating, mental health, marketing, being a youtuber, bitcoin, public speaking... google whatever you want, it's 99% likely there'll be a webinar on it.
Webinars can be very diverse too. The host can present the webinar using a presentation and most webinars are recorded so if you miss them you can watch them later. But if you are watching them in real time it’s a great idea to get involved with the interactive Q&As that usually take place towards the end of a webinar. Think of it a bit like a facebook live, but more educational.
So now that you know what a webinar is, you want to get involved in all the fun. Don’t worry, I’ve got you! Here are some of the top places to break your webinar virginity:
